Plaato Airlock is a connected fermentation airlock that measures CO₂ activity to track fermentation progress in real time. It replaces the traditional analog airlock with a non-invasive digital sensor, providing continuous insight into fermentation without contacting the liquid.
The product was launched via Kickstarter, where it reached approximately 685% funding relative to its original goal. Following launch, more than 10,000 units were sold globally, validating demand for data-driven fermentation tools in a traditionally analog process.
Plaato Airlock was the first product developed at Plaato, forming the foundation of the company and its subsequent product portfolio.
The project included industrial design leadership and end-to-end supply chain development, covering supplier selection, manufacturing setup, quality control, packaging, logistics, and direct-to-customer global fulfillment.
The product received a Red Dot Design Award, recognizing its clarity of use, functional integration, and successful transformation of a familiar brewing artifact into a connected product.
